Description of Courses

Note:  There will be an arrow at most intersections indicating the course direction.  5K will be marked with orange arrows on cardboard and all other courses will be marked with black arrows on yellow.

 

Start for 15K and 25K:  Both the 15K and 25K courses leave the Stowe Mtn. Resort XC Center and follow the outer perimeter of the touring center.  Climb the power line and start up the Peavey trail.  At the intersection of Double Bit, make a right onto Double Bit.  At the intersection of Bear Run, make a right onto Bear Run.  Follow Bear Run to the intersection of the Bruce trail.  Continue to follow Bear Run (also called Old Bear) to the major intersection of Ranch Camp.  Just prior to that intersection is the first food stop.    See 15K and 25K below.

 

15K:  Sign in with the Course Monitor before making a left up the Bruce trail.  Follow the Bruce trail to Timber Lane.  Make a right onto Timber Lane.  Follow Timber Lane to the Classic Trail.  Make a left onto the Classic trail.  Follow Classic to Peavey.  Make a right onto Peavey.  Follow Peavey to Picaroon.  A food stop is located here.  Make a right onto Picaroon.  Then make a right onto the Classic trail.  Keep an eye on the arrows as it is easy to miss Classic and stay on Picaroon.  Follow Classic (you will cross Timber Lane) to Cross Cut #2.  Make a right and go a few feet and then make a left to continue on the Classic trail.  If you go down the hill you have missed your turn.  The Classic ends on Cross Cut #1.   Make a right onto Cross Cut #1 down to the Burt Trail.  Make a right on the Burt and follow it up along the river.  Take a right onto Houston.  Follow Houston (you will cross Timber Lane again) all the way up to Peavey.  Take a right onto Peavey (you’ve been here before).  When you get to the Picaroon trail, that food stop will still be there.  This time, continue straight on the Peavey trail.    Follow Peavey back to the Stowe Mtn. Resort XC Center.

 

25K: Sign in with the Course Monitor before making a right onto the Ranch Camp trail.  Take almost an immediate left onto Ranch Valley Cruise.  Then, take a right on Old Camp (BE ALERT FOR THIS ONE).  Follow Old Camp to the end and take a left on Ranch Camp.  Follow Ranch Camp all the way up to Haul Road (food stop along the way).  Take a right on Haul Road.  Climb Haul Road and then take a left onto Hareline.  Follow Hairline to the end and take a right onto Bobcat.  At the big intersection, take a left onto Oslo and follow it until it ends on Haul Road.  Make a left onto Haul Road.  Follow Haul Road to the Ranch Camp Trail.  Make a right onto Ranch Camp and follow it to the bottom (hitting that food stop along the way) where it intersects the Burt Trail.  From here, head straight across the Burt trail onto the Bruce trail and follow the 15K course directions above.

 

5K:  The 5K course leaves the Stowe Mtn. Resort XC Center and heads out along TimberLane.  Take Timberlane to Cross Cut #2 and take a left there. At the bottom of Cross Cut #2, take a right onto the Bruce.  Follow the Bruce all the way to the Bear Hut food stop (you will go straight through a big intersection).  Then, turn around and head back down the Bruce.  Take a left onto Cross Cut #3.  At the top, take a right onto TimberLane.  Follow TimberLane and make a right onto Classic.  Follow Classic to Cross Cut #2.  Make a right and then almost an immediate left onto Classic.  Follow to the end on Cross Cut #1.  Make a left and then a right onto Timberlane and follow Timberlane back to the touring center.
